Bhakti Yadav was born on 3rd April 1926 at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. She did her schooling when women education was discouraged. But her father supported her to pursue her primary school studies near her village. Later she joined Ahilya Ashram school in Indore, which was only girls school in Indore at those times. In 1948 she joined Holkar Science College, Indore for BSc studies and topped the college in the first year. But she got admission to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGM) based on 11th standard scores. She was the only girl among 40 students pursuing medicine. In 1952 she completed her graduation and pursued MS at same MGM Medical College.
Dr. Yadav’s Heal from Heart Theory
Dr. Yadav believed that majority of the patients need counseling more than treatment. Talking to media about the current generation Doctors, Her opinion used to simple—“None of the today’s doctor tries to be in touch with their patients.” So, we can clearly understand she believed in Interpersonal communication with patients. She has boldly confessed that very fewer doctors treat from their heart with compassion and is an unwelcome trend according to her.
Though during her last few years, due to her age, she was unable to treat many patients; her oral prescriptions carried a lot of value for patients across Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. Even she has expressed her willingness to advise as many patients as possible. Most importantly in her 68 years of marathon career, she has delivered thousands of babies without taking fees and she used to recommend normal delivery as against current trend of C-section delivery.
Dr. Bhakti Yadav has left behind a great legacy of Service-Motto that a Doctor should possess and our generation next doctors should take a leaf out of her biography that spanned for ripen 91 years. Dr. Yadav has received numerous awards and recognitions, and Padma Shri is prominent among them.
