Power Of Students

The power of students is infinite when they work together for a cause. Students from a school in Mumbai have a set a wonderful example of togetherness and purpose by collecting Rs 20 Lakhs for the drought-hit districts that have resulted in many farmers committing suicide. This is at a time when people are unhappy about how the government and politicians have done a lot of lip service and barely anything on the ground that would save the farmers life.

Students from a school in Mumbai ,Cathedral and John Connon raised funds equivalent to 20 Lakh to alleviate the people from their miserable plight in the drought-hit Marathwada region. In the last six months, the students didn’t leave any stone unturned to gather funds be it cultural events or  selling T-shirts.The magnitude of the crisis came to fore through a presentation on the drought-hit area by a former student who is now into Journalism. The presentation which showed scenes of parched lands, abandoned children, some younger than them, startled the students said Meera Isaacs.

Leading the efforts in crisis

“We handed over Rs 15 lakh to Naam Foundation, led by actors Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure,” the principal told Indian Express, also that the rest Rs 5 lakh was given by the school board for the education of children in the drought-affected areas.According to the Principal, the chairman was disturbed by the suicide of a young mother in the Marathwada region and drove there to lend help, and this is how the idea of helping the drought-hit area originated. It is worthwhile noting that during the Uttarakhand tragedy, students collected Rs 45 lakh and at the time of Kashmir floods they raised Rs 22 lakh.

My India salutes the spirit of the students and hopes the lawmakers get inspired by the efforts of the students and get all their resources and powers at their disposal to alleviate the plight of our farmers.
